Our first tutoring session concluded on November 21, taking a break through the holidays. We had a great first session of tutoring and plan to continue seeing the same 19 students after Winter Break. Our winter session will run from January 7 until March 27. We have some adult volunteers for tutoring but also numerous 8th grade students that offer tons of support for students! It’s awesome to see them in an environment other than school, and teaching younger students. We started our winter session today, and had 16 students, which was great! We were able to utilize the brand new TV during our session and it worked perfectly. I projected our groups for rotations and a timer to keep us on track. It will definitely be an asset to us going forward. We also plan to use more materials from the students’ teachers, so we are reinforcing skills that are learned at school, rather than coming up with things for students to work on ourselves. Tutors will be keeping a log of what they work on with students each session and any important notes. Overall, tutoring has been a positive experience for students, tutors, parents, and myself. We look forward to continuing to work out glitches as they come and making this a successful, supportive, and beneficial program for all involved.
